The Montgomery Bus boycott was a deliberate setup done to bring about change. What I mean is that it was planned beforehand that Rosa Parks would not give up her seat - she didn't just 'snap'. 1. Using a woman would bring about more sympathy in people than a man. 2. It showed the country that blacks were willing to boycott the buses rather than put up with the treatment they were receiving by being forced to be treated as second class. 3. Loss of income to the bus company. The policies they (and society) had in place were directly hitting them in the hip pocket. ANY company would stand up and take notice and attempt to fix the problem if they could. By refusing to use the busses at ALL until this was sorted out (as opposed to organizing a limited boycott) assured that something PERMANENT and satisfactory had to be done (ie. long term and not a 'token' gesture) 4. It brought together black people (who were considered a minority) and showed them that with a little hardship they DID have a voice and they COULD accomplish change if they put their collective minds to it. Whereas before this, I guess the mentality must have been "my voice is small and it makes no difference what I would do." Just some to get you started off :) let me know if you need more. Hope this helps!
